TENUTA FRATELLI POVERO TERRE DEL CONTE ROERO ARNEIS 2014
The Arneis grape variety, whose origin is lost in the mists of time, is cultivated since ancient times in the hilly and sandy soils of the Roero. Here the Tenuta Fratelli Povero owns the “Terre del Conte” vineyard from which they obtain all the product necessary for the production of their Roero Arneis, a wine that now ranks among the great D.O.C.G. whites of the Italian oenological tradition.
The white grape Arneis has made a brilliant recovery from what was near extinction in the 1960s. This decline was in part due to the priority given by Piedmont’s producers to red wines. The varietal is most closely associated with the district of Roero, where it has earned a considerable following for its delicate floral notes and generous, full-bodied nature. This example offers impressive apple, pear and mineral aromas with a layered, creamy, complex palate. Excellent value. (VINTAGES panel, May 2015)
