DOMAINE GALEVAN AOP CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2014

THE WINE:
This tiny Châteauneuf du Pape estate is run with incredible passion by Coralie Goumarre, who is the first woman in her family to run the estate in nine generations. Her whites always lean towards the richer, more full-bodied end of the spectrum, and she makes a very classic, yet clean and pure style of red. In addition, her Côtes du Rhônes are terrific and normally represent terrific values.

TASTING NOTES:
The 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape (90% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre) is a balanced, medium to full-bodied, deep ruby-colored effort that has slightly lifted notes of plums, black cherries, mulberries, leather and licorice. I’d like a touch less volatile acidity, but it’s terrific on the palate and has tons of fruit, a full, layered mid-palate and sweet tannin. Drink bottles over the coming 7-8 years.
Score – 90

THE WINERY:
Coralie is the first woman in nine generations to have taken the reins of the family estate.Continuing this long line of Rhône winemakers, Coralie’s joie de vivre and modern, independent approach has bought new energy to the Domaine Galévan. She is supported by experience and expertise that have handed down over the years, as an inheritance.Never has the estate borne its name so well. As well as evoking and exceptional soil, the name Galévan also symbolizes a balance between knowledge and creative freedom, the wine’s fullness and lightness of poetry, constancy and defiance.
